What Wood Flooring is Right for Your Home?

Wood Flooring

With so many flooring options out there, which one would work best for you?

You’ve decided that you are ready to invest in hardwood flooring for your home (and we obviously think that is a great idea!), but now it is time to choose the exact type of hardwood flooring you will be using. The wood flooring that you choose will affect the value of your home, the longevity of your wood floors, and the aesthetics of your interior. Here are the basics that you need to know to choose the right wood flooring for your home.

Where Is the Wood Flooring Going to Be Installed?

One of the biggest factors in the types of wood flooring that you can choose from for your home is where the wood flooring is going to be installed. Solid wood flooring cannot be used in basements, areas of your home that are below ground level, or places in your home with a high level of moisture. Any areas of your home with high levels of moisture or humidity cannot use traditional hardwood flooring, or it will lose its integrity and not last for very long. If you are dying to install wood flooring in your kitchen or bathroom, use engineered hardwood flooring that is not as susceptible to moisture damage.

What Subflooring Are You Using?

The type of subflooring that you use will affect the wood flooring options that you can choose from. If you have concrete subflooring, engineered wood flooring is your only option. Solid wood flooring cannot be directly anchored to the ground, as it expands and contracts based on humidity, so remember that when choosing from your options. If you have a plywood subfloor you can choose from just about any wood flooring, whether you would like engineered hardwood flooring or solid wood flooring.

How Will You Be Using the Area?

Last, but not least, how are you planning on using the area of your home that the wood flooring is going to be installed? That will determine which type of wood you should choose. If the area has a great deal of traffic or spills, you might want to choose an engineered hardwood flooring.
