Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Hardwood Flooring

Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Hardwood Flooring

Here are spring cleaning tips we have to get your hardwood flooring looking like new again.

We’ve finally gotten past the winter season, and we’re moving on to the warmer months of spring. During winter, hardwood flooring in your home has to deal with people tracking snow, water, mud, and other messes inside. By the time we reach spring, your flooring will be in need of a serious cleaning to get back to normal. Here are spring cleaning tips we have to get your hardwood flooring looking like new again.

Remove Any Lingering Dirt and Debris

Before you start cleaning the floor itself, you want to rid the floor of any pieces of dirt or debris that could get in the way of the cleaning process. A dust mop or vacuum cleaner would be the ideal tool for this task. Once the pieces of debris have been removed, you can focus on cleaning the messes that are stuck to your floor.

Take Some Water and Your Favorite Wood-Cleaning Product

While some messes will be on the floor, like dust bunnies and dirt, there will be other messes that seep into your flooring, like stains. To remove them, find a good wood-cleaning product to get rid of whatever buildup your floor may have accumulated. Diluting these products with water will likely be needed.

To apply your cleaning solution to the floor, go with a soft mop, cloth, or sponge. These tools aren’t abrasive, so they won’t damage your floor. Just be careful to squeeze extra liquid out before you apply your cleaning product because water can be harmful to wood if you don’t address it quickly. Also, blot up whatever water is left over. That way, that water can’t get into your flooring.

For Floors in Bad Shape, Do Some Sanding and Re-Sealing

Sometimes, your hardwood flooring will require more than a simple scrubbing. In some cases, your floor might be in particularly bad condition, and you might need to sand the topmost layer of your floor. It’s also possible that you’ll need to get your hardwood flooring re-stained as well. These tasks can be done on one’s own, but it makes the process much easier if you bring in professional help.
