Some Helpful Tips for Keeping Your Floors Clean

Some Helpful Tips for Keeping Your Floors Clean

Are your floors always covered in dirt, grime, and mud?

Are your floors always covered in dirt, grime, and mud? It’s time to do something about that situation. Here are some of the most helpful tips you could ever follow when it comes to keeping your floors clean!

Basic Tips

First of all, it’s essential to clean your floors several times a week. It’s just good practice. Once a month, you should schedule a deep cleaning. This deep cleaning, done by professionals, benefits all the different types of flooring in your home, no matter what it is made of; either hardwood or something similar, like bamboo or laminate. Do you have pets? Then you’ll want to clean your floors every two days or so. Although this sounds onerous, it is much easier than you might think. It’s far less time consuming when you stay on top of it instead of allowing grime and scuff marks to build up until they are too stubborn to remove.

Using a Vacuum

It’s also possible to use a vacuum on your floors. Be careful, or else you might leave more scratches behind by using the wrong setting. The beater bar is what you want to watch out for; it’s great for shaking the dust off of your carpets, but maybe not so great for hardwood. That’s because it can gouge the polyurethane coating on the floor or even reach the wood itself and leave a mark that won’t buff out, no matter what you do. You can turn off the beater bar or find a model of vacuum that doesn’t have one included.

Other Suggestions

When it comes to protecting your hardwood floors, every little bit helps. That’s why you should revisit your current house rules. The fall is a time for many family reunions. Plus, with Halloween on the horizon, you’re probably going to have a bunch of guests running through your home. Put down floor mats at strategic points to help preserve the wood in those spots, such as back or side doors. Then put a plastic mat, bin, or shoe rack by the front door. You can also set one up in your mudroom. Either way, it’s a place for everyone under your roof to store their shoes while they are inside. Plus, it’s just the polite thing to do!
