How Do I Clean My Baseboards?

Whether you’re a champion of house cleaning or a more reluctant scrubber and duster, you know the necessity of keeping a clean home. Not only does it look nice for your family and guests, but it also makes your living space healthier! One part of your home that can be difficult to keep clean is your baseboards. Because they are at ground level and often have ridges or indentations in the wood, dust can collect there easily. Cleaning your baseboards may feel at first like a bit of a daunting task, but it is actually very simple. The experts at JKE Hardwood Flooring are here to help with some basic tips for cleaning baseboards!

The first step you need to take when cleaning your baseboards is dusting them. This can be done with a small broom, a duster sheet, a dryer sheet, or even a small paintbrush (just don’t dip it in paint first!). Dust needs to be removed before you clean the rest of the baseboard so that it doesn’t block any built up dirt or grime underneath of it.

You can then use a mix of warm water and a mild soap, such as dish soap, to wash the baseboard. Use a gentle cloth or sponge rather than anything too abrasive so as not to damage the finish or the paint of your baseboards.

For the tiny corners where your baseboard meets the wall of the individual ridges in which dirt can collect, you can use the same soap and water solution. But instead of a cloth or sponge, use a cotton swab to get at those hard-to-access areas.

Once your baseboards are clean, your whole home will look better for it! For more information on how to care for your baseboards and hardwood floors, call on the experts at JKE today!
