4 Hardwood Flooring Tips You Don’t Know About

Taking care of your hardwood floors can be trickier than you might think. Here are some hardwood flooring tips to try out if you didn’t already know about them!

Taking care of your hardwood floors can be trickier than you might think. After all, you don’t want to leave accidental scratches or let them sit in the sun for too long. Food and drink spills can also cause problems with your floors if there aren’t already problems caused by the weather changing as winter approaches. Here are some hardwood flooring tips to try out if you didn’t already know about them!

Fix Scratches

Scratches are one of the most common problems with hardwood flooring. They’re also unsightly, and difficult to remove. Luckily, the first of our hardwood flooring tips shows you have to fix any scratches you find. Mix together three parts ordinary canola oil with one part vinegar. Apply to the scratched parts of your hardwood floor and rub gently. After a few minutes, the scratch should lift, leaving your hardwood floors good as new.

Use Microfiber

Dust is another problem that you will have to deal with when cleaning your hardwood floors. Fortunately, the second of our hardwood flooring tips has to do with getting rid of dust. Although a broom can help you get rid of dust on a tile floor in your kitchen, you probably don’t have tile everywhere else in your home. Instead, use a microfiber duster to collect any dust the broom might miss. This duster is also useful for sweeping up after giving someone in your family a haircut, and you need to trap the loose bits of hair. If you have pets who constantly track dirt or kitty litter all over the house, or shed and leave their hair everywhere, then you can also pick the debris up off your hardwood floors using microfiber.

Use a Toothbrush

Using a toothbrush to clean your hardwood floors may sound unusual or inefficient. Still, this method is great for getting rid of marks left behind by a permanent marker. All you need to do this is a toothbrush and some toothpaste along with a wet cloth. Rub on the spot until it vanishes.

Wine Corks Help

The next time you open a bottle of wine, be careful not to spill any of it on your hardwood floors. Cleaning wine off of your floors presents its own set of troubles. Once you’ve finished with the cork, though, resist the temptation to throw it away. Instead, reshape the cork to accept the leg of a chair that has been wobbling badly enough to leave scratches on your beautiful floor. This is an unorthodox solution, but it’s one that you’ll probably find useful.
