Protect Your Hardwood Floors on Thanksgiving!

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, you will no doubt be preparing your home for an influx of family and friends. While many of these preparations will have to do with decorating, cooking, and setting up the dining room table, there is one important thing that you should not overlook: your hardwood floors! With so many guests walking in and out of your home on Thanksgiving Day, your entire hardwood floor is going to become a highly trafficked area, putting it at risk for scuffing, staining, and other damage. Read on to discover the best ways to keep your hardwood floor protected during this busy time of year!

Thanksgiving DaySimple Ways to Protect Hardwood from Foot Traffic

The first thing you should do in order to prevent damage being done to your hardwood floors is to put down a welcome mat at your home’s main entrance. This way, guests will be encouraged to wipe their feet and knock loose any debris that might be stuck in their shoes. Small bits of gravel or pebbles can scratch your hardwood floor’s surface; better that they don’t make it into the house at all! A welcome mat can also absorb any moisture on the bottom of your guests’ shoes, which decreases the likelihood of rain water being tracked in.

Inside of your house, consider which areas will be the most highly trafficked. The line around the buffet of Thanksgiving food, for instance, will see a regular rotation of clicking heels and stomping feet. To protect the hardwood there, lay down an area rug or a runner rug, with a non-skid pad placed underneath, so that people will be able to safely maneuver around without damaging the wood floors.

The holidays are a busy enough time without having to worry about your hardwood floors getting damaged!  Take these simple steps now and save your floor’s surface for later.
