Are you interested in laminate flooring?

While you may love the look of hardwood flooring, maybe you’re in the mood for something different this year. Are you interested in laminate flooring? After all, you have to think about your budget, how much you know how to do on your own, and if you’re willing to hire contractors to do the work for you, so you don’t have to worry about it while spending time with your family. Here are a few considerations for you.

How It’s Installed

Laminate flooring can click together during the installation process. Occasionally, some will call for using adhesive instead. This means that you could do it all yourself, but you want to be sure that you do it right.

How Long It Lasts

However, there are other long-term costs you need to think about as the years pass. It’s one thing to save money on installation costs, but maintenance and upkeep are going to cost you something as well. The laminate flooring will eventually wear out, and you’ll need to replace it. It could be six months, or it could be six years, but at some point, you’ll need to put in new floors. Luckily, when that becomes an issue, it shouldn’t be too difficult to pull it up. This means that the subfloor will be untouched, and ready to receive a new type of flooring, especially if you are thinking about switching to natural hardwood, engineered hardwood, or even bamboo.

How to Maintain It

Lastly, it’s time to think about how to maintain laminate flooring. You can use a vacuum to clean this type of flooring, much as you would with other floors, even wall-to-wall carpet. Although you might worry about how dirt, dust, mud, and other debris will affect the look of your floors, laminate has a protective layer on it. This shield repels dirt and debris, so cleaning and sanitizing far easier than you would expect.

Sweeping, vacuuming and dry mopping should be all you need to do. However, there will be times in which you will need to use soap and water. Scrub and mop on the spots that are stuck-on and require more effort to remove, but don’t let the water sit and collect into puddles. That’s because standing water can cause moisture damage that you can’t notice until it’s already too late.
