How Scratches and Dents Develop on Hardwood Flooring

How Scratches and Dents Develop on Hardwood Flooring

Here are ways your hardwood flooring could develop dents and scratches.

If you have any hardwood floors in your home, then you know they’re eventually going to get worn down and damaged. While natural wearing of your floor is inevitable, you can extend your floor’s lifespan if you know how damage is caused. By knowing how hardwood flooring can be damaged, you can take measures to prevent that damage from happening. Here are ways your hardwood flooring could develop dents and scratches.

You’re Moving In

Are you in the process of moving into a new house? If so, then you’ll need to bring in all of your furniture before you can get settled into your home. Be careful when moving pieces of furniture, though, because you can scratch hardwood flooring very easily by dragging them across the floor. You could hire a company to move the furniture for you, but you want to be sure the company you hire is extra careful, making sure they don’t drag furniture on your floors and cause unnecessary damage.

Certain Types of Shoes Can Cause Problems

There are people who would prefer that you not wear shoes in the house, and when you have hardwood flooring, there’s good reason to abide by this rule. Shoes can damage floors much more easily than if people only wore socks. This is especially true for high heels, cleats, and boots, so if you want your hardwood flooring to last, it’s best that people leave their shoes at the door.

Children’s Toys

Do you have kids at home? If so, perhaps there are toys they use around the house. Some toys are fine, but if there are toys that kids ride, like rocking horses, they could result in your hardwood flooring suffering some scratches. If you don’t want your floors being scratched by these toys, then it’s best to have those toys located in areas with plenty of carpeting. This way, the carpeting will absorb the impact much more comfortably.
