4 Easy Ways to Keep Your Hardwood Floors Clean

4 Easy Ways to Keep Your Hardwood Floors Clean

Here are some easy ways to keep your hardwood floors clean, especially if you’ve been plagued by allergies inside your home while all the allergens outside have gone away.

Now that fall is almost over, winter is coming. That means snow, sleet, ice, and road salt will soon be joining you in your home. Here are some easy ways to keep your hardwood floors clean, especially if you’ve been plagued by allergies inside your home while all the allergens outside have gone away.

Do the Dusting

It can be difficult to get rid of the dust in your home. Even if you don’t feel like it, you should do this every day. That way, you can get rid of any dust that has settled onto your floorboards, especially if there are any cracks or gaps that you can’t see. Microfiber will be a big help as you try to keep your hardwood looking beautiful.

Trying Using Black Tea

Using black tea on your hardwood floors may seem like an unusual suggestion. After all, the acidity of the tea might leave streaks, stains, or moisture damage on the floors themselves. But the tannic acid in black tea works differently. Make a few cups of tea and dampen a hand towel with the tea. Then find any traces of dust, dirt, or grease. You can use this solution to get rid of that staining and then go back to dusting as you normally would.

Use Vinegar

Another solution is to use vinegar. That said, you shouldn’t rely on vinegar alone. Try other cleaning methods, even steam in limited quantities. Water can help you clean your floors, but you don’t want to overdo it. Also, avoid using vinegar and bleach together. If you do, there could be a chemical reaction that is dangerous to both you and the hardwood floors. However, you can use vinegar to help restore some great shine to your floors.

Polish the Hardwood Floors

Keeping your hardwood floors also involves some polishing. The polish you use depends on the type of the wood in your floors, though. Make sure you choose the right one so you don’t leave any accidental damage on your floors. Some polishes are better suited for solid hardwood, others for engineered hardwood, and so on. Once the polish treatment has been applied, wait for up to three months before applying the next one. Plus, once it has been polished, it’s much easier to mop the floor than it was before.
