3 Ways to Protect Your Hardwood Flooring This Spring

3 Ways to Protect Your Hardwood Flooring This Spring

It will only feel like spring will be around for a few minutes before summer rolls in, but here are some great ways to protect your hardwood flooring this season.

Whenever you have your hardwood floors refinished, you probably start wondering how to make it last longer. The change of seasons can be a rough time for all of the floors in your home. It will only feel like spring will be around for a few minutes before summer rolls in, but here are some great ways to protect your hardwood flooring this season.

Avoid All Abrasives

The first thing to do is to avoid all abrasives. When you use abrasive cleaning products, you could get rid of stubborn stains, but it’s just as likely that you will leave unintentional damage behind. You don’t want to ruin your hardwood floors by accident! It’s also possible that you won’t be sure which cleaners you should use. If that’s the case, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with the experts here at JKE Hardwood Flooring, and we can give you the advice that you need.

Follow Every Direction

So now that you’ve given your floors a cursory inspection, the next step is to follow every direction on the cleaners you’ve decided to use. Deep cleaning your hardwood floors can be trickier than you might think, and you don’t want to do it wrong. Although you might think that using more liquid is the key to achieving a more complete clean, that isn’t always the case. Using too much liquid cleaner is harmful to your floors. Any standing water that is left behind can cause your floors to start warping. Use a clean, dry towel to wipe up any water or moisture that you can see is still on the floor when you are done.

Clean Up Spills

In that same vein, clean up any spills that happen right away. It doesn’t matter if it’s an accident where you knock over your glass of lemonade over while reading a book, or if a party guest drops their drink by accident. You’ll also need to get rid of any dirt, debris, or mud that could be tracked into your home by anyone who forgets to take their shoes off. All of that gunk can eventually leave scratches, dings, and dents that will affect how good your hardwood floors look.
