3 Tips for Fixing Up Your Hardwood

3 Tips for Fixing Up Your Hardwood

At some point, you will need to do what you can to fix up your hardwood floors.

At some point, you will need to do what you can to fix up your hardwood floors. However, this process doesn’t need to be as strenuous or time-consuming as you might think. Here are some great tips for you to follow, especially if you get stuck

Clean Up on Aisle One

Stains can linger. Even if you fix broken hardwood flooring planks, that doesn’t get rid of the stains. One way to go about this is to pull up the damaged boards, but leave the rest of it intact. Wine and juice might not seem like threats to your hardwood floors since they aren’t water, but they can still spell plenty of trouble for the floors if you don’t clean up spills as soon as they happen. Changing a lighter hardwood to a darker one is a great way to mask a stain mark, but you have to do it carefully so you don’t accidentally call more attention to the spot with the unsightly stain on it.

Make Bigger Changes

In some cases, the changes you make will have to be more dramatic and noticeable. It all comes down to how much damage has accumulated on your wooden floors over the years before any repairs or replacements take place. Let’s suppose that you want all of the wooden floors in your home to match. Start by getting planks out of storage – say, from the attic, the garage, or even the basement!

Choose a New Color

The final step is to choose a new color. Remove old and broken planks of hardwood; no matter what species they are, they will degrade. This process might take years or even decades, but it will happen eventually. Installing new floors to replace old ones represents a fantastic chance to press the reset button on your home’s interior design aspects. Put in a few new planks, even if you need to call in the professionals. They can also perform all of the sanding work if it becomes necessary because most homeowners aren’t savvy enough to do this on their own without expert assistance. Adding stain and varnish can also help give the color you choose a boost and make it pop!
